OD Process Professional Certification Program (ODPC)

Course Outline

Session 1. Introduction and Overview of Process Consulting (3 hours)

Gain an overview of the field of Organization Development and identify the role of the OD Process Consultant.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the OD Process Consultant
  • Define Organization Development (what it stands for and what it provides)
  • Identify OD Process Consulting competencies, assess your strengths and development needs, and list activities to develop your competence
  • Define your values and ethics and those of your organization
  • Apply OD concepts to real world challenges

Homework (4-5 hours)

Session 2. The Role of the OD Professional: Building the Helping Relationship (3 hours)

Recognize the role of the OD Process Professional, the Process Consulting model, and the difference from traditional roles versus emerging roles in OD.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the role of the OD Process Professional to help your organization develop effective interventions for change and to solve critical business challenges
  • Recognize the OD Process Consulting Model
  • Identify traditional vs. emerging consulting roles
  • Practice the OD Process Consultant model to gain confidence and acquire skills

Homework (4-5 hours)

Session 3. Developing an OD Mindset (3 hours)

Learn the importance of demonstrating an OD Mindset to effectively help the client identify problems and create effective solutions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop and define your OD Mindset through mindfulness
  • Recognize OD Mindful Tools - Ladder of Inference, and Emotional Intelligence to support your OD Consulting Practice
  • Demonstrate active listening and effective questioning skills to build relationships
  • Build your skills to help the client create collaborative partnerships through Appreciative Inquiry using the 4D Model

Session 4: Process Consulting in Action: Entry, Contracting and Influence Skills (3 hours)

Learn how to conduct an entry interview and influence senior leaders to create a contracting agreement.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the first two steps in the model – Entry and Contracting
  • Practice the Entry and Contracting Steps
  • Build powerful influence skills to gain senior leader commitment and buy-in

Homework (4-5 hours)

Session 5: Discovery and Feedback (3 hours)

Gain several techniques to collect data through discover and feedback, and generate a report to share the data with the client.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover critical information about an organization and/or key initiative by collecting data
  • Demonstrate several techniques to conduct interviews and focus groups
  • Create a feedback report and conduct feedback sessions to share data and identify priorities and gaps

Homework (4-5 hours)

Session 6. Dialogue and Action Planning (3 hours)

Create a culture of collaboration through the art of dialogue.

Facilitate the development of action plans with key stakeholders. Apply specific tools to promote change across the organization.

Learning Objectives:

  • Promote dialogue to maximize collaboration and generate ideas/solutions
  • Facilitate the development of action plans with key stakeholders
  • Apply specific action planning tools to promote transformation and change across the organization

Homework (4-5 hours)

Session 7. Implementing Change and Increasing Engagement (3 hours)

Recognize how to effectively implement change, increase engagement to change and identify how to overcome resistance to change from denial to acceptance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the process for implementing effective change
  • Identify how to create engagement
  • Determine a model for change and how to overcome resistance to change

Homework (4-5 hours)

Session 8. Maintenance, Measurement and Follow Up (3 hours)

Learn how to successfully end the client project by transferring knowledge, communicating results, and providing feedback and training to maintain the change.

Learning Objectives:

  • Prepare the client for transferring knowledge, maintenance and follow up
  • Provide support to help the client sustain the change
  • Design a plan to transfer maintenance of tasks tied to project back to client group
  • Measure results to determine on success of the change and provide feedback
  • Communicate the results and debrief the outcomes of the change plan, deliverables, roles, and expectations
  • Create a follow up plan to help the client moving forward

Final Exam
