Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, former U.S. Surgeon General and frequent writer on the topic of loneliness, recently stated: “The brunt of COVID-19 will be borne by the poor, elderly, and sick, and it is up to us to ensure that they are not left behind.” Seniors were already experiencing loneliness and social isolation at a greater rate than the overall population, so they have been profoundly affected by the pandemic.
