Staples Launches Trusted Advisor as a Financial Wellness Benefit

Press Release from TrustPlus

December 21, 2017. Staples has selected Neighborhood Trust as a benefits provider, delivering our Trusted Advisor™ service to a segment of its national workforce. We are thrilled Staples has chosen to include financial wellness among its suite of workplace benefits.

As of November Trusted Advisor is reaching employees at four Staples locations. Over the next three months we are rolling out the service to nearly 5,000 Staples employees in nine states. We look forward to being an active presence in the Staples community nationally in the coming year.

For each Staples employee, this means help is on the way. With a simple text message, any employee can select from a roster of our expert Financial Counselors and begin a long-term counseling relationship via phone or Skype. Our expert guidance links workers to workplace benefits and financial products that help them optimize their paycheck and begin saving for the future. Hard-earned dollars end up in their pockets, not the coffers of check cashing stores, predatory credit cards, and pay day lenders.

For Staples this means a less stressed, more productive and more loyal workforce.

We applaud Staples’ commitment to the financial health of their workforce, and believe their corporate leadership on this issue is timely. Today working families are struggling more than ever to make ends meet. Policies that encourage asset development, protect consumers, and improve job quality are at risk. As detailed in a recent report “…the majority of America’s workforce has insufficient savings to provide for the future, and less than half of U.S. households have enough liquid financial assets to cover the loss of one month’s worth of income…” (Pew Charitable Trusts, 2015).

Our Staples launch is our latest accomplishment in a year marked by significant growth. Inspired by our employee-clients we serve each day, we continue our product innovation efforts to ensure workers’ hard-earned wages convert into savings and long-term financial health.

Today The Employer Solution serves 15 companies and we have proven results in making workers’ dollars go further. In 2018 Neighborhood Trust will add to our portfolio a number of employer customers across the country, companies who show a commitment to their employees just like what Staples is doing today.

Neighborhood Trust’s mission is to empower low-income individuals to become productive participants in the U.S. financial system and achieve their financial goals. The Employer Solution is Neighborhood Trust’s workplace service that enables employers to invest in their workers’ financial health. We deliver innovative financial wellness services and supports integrated into payroll and human resources systems. Guided by our 20 years of financial counseling to tens of thousands of clients, we tailor our services to the particular needs of workers struggling with income volatility and financial shocks, and confronting the challenges of high-interest debt and minimal savings. Trusted Advisor, our financial counseling service delivered via phone, skype and mobile, is the first of a holistic suite of products in development as part of The Employer Solution.
