The Council’s James C. Hall, Jr. Family Child Care Network, located at York College in Jamaica, Queens, is a vital resource to family and group family child care providers in South East and South West Queens. The Network offers technical support, professional development opportunities and enrollment in the New York State Department of Health Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The current 150 CACFP active members serve approximately 1,000 + children.
The CACFP program enables providers to serve nutritious meals and snacks to children in their care. Nutrition workshops, focusing on implementing menu plans and record keeping systems, are also offered to providers.
The Network staff continues to play a major role in resource development aimed to increase and maintain the supply of quality child care services. The Network conducts child care provider training opportunities in mandated areas to assist family child care providers obtain registration or meet re-licensing requirements.
Annual events included Provider Appreciation Day in June, annual CACFP training given to providers, and the Annual Holiday Celebration in December. A variety of training opportunities at York College are offered, including business basics for providers, learning and development in infants and young toddlers, and SIDS. And as an on-going service, quarterly newsletters are sent to all family child care members.
