GOLDMAN SACHS 10,000 SMALL BUSINESSES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM SELECTS BETHESDA, MARYLAND-BASED WOMAN-OWNED CAREER FIRM

Press Release from The Career Strategy Group

Bethesda, MD: Today, CEO Laura Labovich announced that her company, The Career Strategy Group – a woman-owned career transition and resume writing company - was accepted into the Goldman Saks 10,000 Small Businesses Program for Fall 2018.

The 10,000 Small Businesses program helps entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity by offering business and management education, mentoring, networking and access to capital. To date, over 7,300 business owners have successfully graduated.

The highly competitive program selects people who are passionate about growing their companies. Participants must commit to a rigorous and time-intensive schedule of mentoring and networking, as well as developing growth plans for their business.

Alumni achieve greater levels of customer satisfaction, community involvement, revenue growth and job creation than the broader economy, as well as increased bank loan approvals, innovation, and new product development, says a report by Babson College.

The Federal Small Business Administration (SBA) attributes 60% of new job creation in the US since the recession to small businesses alone.

Laura Labovich, the founder of The Career Strategy Group, said she’s grateful that Goldman Sachs recognizes women-owned businesses as being crucial economic drivers. The program’s investment in women-owned companies is clear: while women only own about a third of small businesses in the US, almost half the spots in the program are awarded to female entrepreneurs.

Recent studies show that having female board members leads to better corporate and fund performance while having more female managers brings higher returns across a company.

In addition, Goldman Sachs has invested $1 billion to help female entrepreneurs in emerging markets. The free program, called 10,000 Women, is offered online through Coursera, the world’s largest online learning platform.

Labovich worked in Human Resources departments, for over 12 years, with Fortune 500 companies, such as The Walt Disney Company and America Online. During one company merger, forced to lay off colleagues and friends, Lebovich said she realized that those affected were helped best by career transition consultants, and decided that’s what she wanted to do. “I knew at that moment that my calling was to help people find new jobs,’ she said.

Leaving the corporate world behind, Labovich set up her own company to combine her diverse human resources experience with her love of career coaching.

Labovich and her team help clients develop proactive, targeted job search marketing plans that find them work 60% faster than the national average. This success rate, combined with Labovich’s enthusiasm for growing her business, persuaded the 10,000 Small Businesses judges to award her a coveted spot in the program.

Labovich said she is looking forward to achieving greater community-wide engagement after the program. She plans to host workshops and seminars for both job seekers and the human resources community at large on topics such as career management, downsizing with dignity, time management for busy professionals and more.

‘I’ll be seeking to gain skills and uncover opportunities for growth and investment in the local community through the program. I plan to use my experience to positively contribute to economic growth in my backyard,’ said Labovich.

Labovich is also a best-selling business author, award-winning resume writer and an internationally-renowned speaker.
