DID YOU KNOW? Some States are Reducing Benefit Duration

Historically, unemployment benefits were available for up to 26 weeks in most states. After the pandemic, a handful of states are reducing the duration of benefits by tying the maximum number of weeks to the statewide unemployment rate. Currently, there are 10 states that have a reduced duration. This is good news for employers as it limits the potential maximum liability on an unemployment claim.  The states with reduced durations are:

  • AL – Up to 14 weeks
  • AR – Up to 16 weeks
  • FL – Up to 12 weeks
  • GA – Up to 14 weeks
  • IA – Up to 16 weeks
  • KS – Up to 16 weeks
  • KY – Up to 12 weeks
  • MO – Up to 20 weeks
  • NC – Up to 12 weeks
  • OK – Up to 16 weeks
