Hiring decisions continue to have one of the greatest impacts on businesses of all sizes. Unfortunately, these decisions are often made without considering important candidate data. In a recent survey on hiring practices, 65% of 3,000 hiring managers stated they made hiring decisions based on instincts rather than using pre-employment assessment data. However, instinctive hiring decisions could result in ineffective or unproductive new hires and introduce unconscious bias into the hiring process. Change is inevitable and can be difficult for employees to navigate. We believe managers are crucial in helping their teams (and the organization) through change by creating a psychologically safe environment. This requires teaching managers how to build and maintain psychological safety in their teams. Employees should feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and admitting mistakes.
