Rewards strategies need to be designed with both the short-term and the long-term in mind. When designing their total direct compensation packages strategists should evaluate programs based on this balanced perspective. But adopting a balanced rewards strategy creates a significant communication requirement for the organization. Employees must buy into this strategy and accept that they must align their spending patterns with their incomes.
